I am a cardiac and vascular surgeon.
Vascular diseases develop on a background of metabolic and vascular inflammation; genetic predisposition and lifestyle shape this process together. Two patients with the same diagnosis can therefore follow different courses, and each patient should be assessed individually. Recognising metabolic inflammation early and catching the disease before it progresses is the most decisive step of treatment.
Not every patient needs surgery. In the early stages, lifestyle changes and medication are often sufficient. When an intervention is needed, I believe the goal is the best result with the least possible intervention.
“Each patient should be assessed individually.”
